WHAT I'M WRITING ABOUT

The other day somebody showed me a "tag cloud."  These are visual representations of any copy in which words used most often are proportionally larger than words used less often (there are internet sites where you create these). I've seen it done for famous speeches or important writings. It gives a pretty good idea about what the author finds most important.. Anyway, it's an interesting exercise, and I wondered what it would look like if I fed the lyrics to my album into one of these. Songwriters, or at least me, often don't know what they're writing about throughout the process an even after a work is completed. Looking at this gives at least a few clues as to what's important to me.

SOMETHING NEW

What's important to you as an artist?
Love, truth, soul.

Tell us about recording your new CD, "Something New."
I worked on it for a couple of years. Most of the time was spent thinking about it rather than doing it. In that time, I spent maybe 40 days in the studio. I wouldn't change a thing about the CD, and I've never been able to say that about any of my previous recordings. this may have a lot to do with taking that time to sit with the tracks and play with them until I was satisfied. I worked through lots of material before settling on the twelve songs on "Something New." Also, I have a great band and I played with some really talented musicians. That helped a lot.

These were some questions I answered recently in an on-line interview. To see the whole thing, check out:

Now that our record is officially released, we'll be playing more dates, so keep in touch and we hope to see you in person soon. And if you have any questions for me, let me know and I'll answer them here.
